Cecilia - Origin and Meaning of the name

The girl name Cecilia [ comp. ce-ci-lia ] is pronounced SahSIYLYah ^KEY. Cecilia is of Latin origin. It is used mainly in English, German, Italian, Scandinavian, and Spanish. Derived from the word caecus with the meaning 'blind'. The name was borne by Saint Cecilia (176-180), the patron saint of musicians, and also by one of the daughters of William the Conqueror.
